I have always had an aversion to overtly relying on stats for baseball. and life. i have taken the position that satistics are numbers that happen to other people, which is ,well, whatever. This is going somewhere.Which brings me to the sabermetric encyclopedia. For anyone who hasnt already ordered ,Lee's encyclopedia is absolutely astonishing. It is easy to install, easy to use and damn good fun. Even if you are like me and arent interested in minutae, it is quite a great tool to have.

Let me tell you about the SBE CD..................
I'm a diehard Yankee fan. Died in the wool. Thirty year fan now. Anyone who knows me even a little bit, knows I'm a Yankee fan.
If for some reason the rules stated that, in order to be able to continue using the SBE, I had to attend at least one Yankee game per year dressed in a Mets' cap and Mike Piazza Jersey, I would suit up in orange and blue each season and head to the Bronx without even blinking.
That's how much I appreciate the use of the SBE.

I have a question about it. Do you have to order a whole new one every year to get the updated stats? actually two questions - how much does it cost?

Although I don't often agree with the conclusions people draw from stats, I love the stats myself, and couldn't live without the SBE anymore.
And, if necessary, I will follow Max's lead, and head on down to the Jake wearing my trusty Olde English "D" hat, and Orange and navy Tigers Windbreaker to keep it.
But I wouldn't show up in the House That George Remodeled wearing Mets gear. That's suicide. Don't do that, Steve.

You buy a new one each year - - but at a HUGE discount if you've bought one the year prior.

The SBE is indispensable. I just wish you could update it with the current year stats as the new season begins.

Boom -
Some of us are in a beta test of that - and it's a great feature.

Bumping this up - since the SBE 4.0 is available to be pre-ordered - - - it's still the best ROI you'll ever see on a software application, IMO.

can someone who has SBE 2.0 get discount for 4.0?

Do I get a normal discount if I got my previous SBE free for winning the prediction contest or do I get an additional discount?
This question may not really be important because I still have to ask my parents to pay for it...yeah, a grown man who believes his parents have to okay everything he does that doesn't imvolve downloading, pretty shameful huh...but I wonder accordingly.

The SBE could really use some some modest improvements. The fact we can't do any sorts or selections by HoFers is really weak. No indication of whether a guy is in the HoF or not is annoying. I know Lee hates the HoF, but as he makes the SBE more commercial he needs to make this change.

Only if they request it.
Send me an email, at lee@baseball-encyclopedia.com, identify yourself as rza93 and give me your real name, so I can confirm it in the database, and I'll send you the upgrade URL.

The only purpose of the upgrade discount is to encourage repeat purchases. Since that's not the case when someone wasn't originally a purchaser, the whole purpose doesn't fit and the discount apply.

FWIW, when I pre-ordered 4.0, I elected to pay full price rather than ask for the discount. My logic: Is the few bucks that I might save going to do more good in my pocket - or, are they better served ensuring that Lee can make a living off the SBE and therefore mean that we can expect the SBE to be available years forward?
For those who have the SBE - would you not be very sad if the one in your hand was the last one ever to be produced?
I look at it this way - I play with the SBE just about everyday - at full price, it's about $30. That works out to about ten cents a day. There's no better ROI out there - on anything, IMHO.
