Really a sad story about a legendary football player. Apparently all the shots to the head from playing center messed his mind up bad. He wouldn't let anyone help him even if his alternative was to sleep in the park. He even refused to file for NFL medical pension benefits which he was perfectly entitled to.

I was a pretty big fan of the '70's Steelers.

Probably still have an old black Rocky B # 20 jersey somewhere............

Shame. I liked Webster a lot. Shame.

Reason number 101 why guys should opt for pro-whatever over pro-football. There's a price for playing in the NFL.

Football can be a beautiful game, but the violence is a constant. I think as a fan of the game that you have to expect a Mike Webster-type of scenario, where a player dies because of injuries inflicted during his playing days. It's awful to think that way, but even with all the best equipment, that's still the way the game works.

Webster was a great player, and it's a shame that he had so many problems after his playing career. I hope NFL players think of him any time their union is discussing pensions or medical help for retired players. I'm just glad that Webster was able to have such a great relationship with his kid.
