I'm new here, so maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen any mention (other than my own) of "Hornsby Hit One Over My Head", by David Cataneo.

It's an oral history from the fans' perspective. Cataneo records the memories of living fans, starting with elderly people whose memories are of John McGraw and other old-time baseball people and teams. The book moves chronologically, covering younger and younger fans, whose memories, logically, are of baseball in ever more recent times. There are major league memories, minor leagues, little league, women's baseball, negro leagues -- just about everything.

It's by far my favorite book. It combines baseball history with a more lyrical approach, weaving through teh game itself and through the realtionships fans had with the game and with their families.

I'd not heard of this. Sounds like a good one to track down. TY.
