1) Last week, Felipe Alou says the Redsox offered the MGR job to him. But, due to the fact that the team's ownership status is uncertain, as the team is up for sale, he turned the job down.

Meanwhile, when Jimy Williams was fired with the Redsox having a 65-53 record, he became the first MGR to lose his job with the team at least 5 games above .500 since the Yankees fired Billy Martin with a 40-28 record in 1988.

2) The BlueJays designated P Chris Michalak for assignment and called up P Scott Eyre.

Michalak had a 4.57 ERA and 4 RSAA in 23 games (18 starts) as a rookie.

Eyre has 78 games of major league experience (29 starts) with the 1997-2000 Whitesox, with a 5.66 ERA, -24 RSAA and 9-14 record.

3) The Giants placed P Wayne Gomes on the 15 day DL and activated OF Shawon Dunston from the DL.

Gomes has recurrent right patella tendinitis.

Dunston is having his typical season, with a good AVG but terrible OBA. With a .286 AVG, he's hitting .299 OBA, .500 SLG, .799 OPS, 1 RCAA, .527 OWP, 5.77 RC/G, 22 RC in 61 games and only has 1 BB in 146 PA. His fluke .500 SLG.

He could have a career unworst season in RCAA, with his whopping total of 1 matching his 1993 season (in which he was hot during a 10 PA season). In his 17 year career, the only other time he avoided a negative RCAA was the 0 he posted in 18 games in 1992.

The .027 difference between Dunston's .297 career OBA and his .270 AVG is the 4th lowest figure in baseball history.

4) Giants SS Rich Aurilia missed Saturday's game, when his wife gave birth to their first child, and was back in the lineup yesterday.

5) Astros LF Lance Berkman has been out of the lineup for the past 4 games, due to patella tendinitis in his right knee. The Astros say he was out of the lineup yesterday because he would also get today off, before they start a series with the Phillies tomorrow.

6) The Rockies plan on calling P Jason Jennings, to take Brian Bohanon's spot in the rotation, on Thursday.

7) The Cubs will call up P Carlos Zambrano before the second game of today's doubleheader.

Zambrano, 20, was ranked as the Cubs's #5 prospect by Baseball America and was given a C+ grade by the Minor League Scouting Notebook. He came into the season with a 3.45 career ERA in 3 minor league seasons and had a 3.98 ERA in AAA this year.

8) The Dodgers placed P Jesse Orosco on the 15 day DL and recalled P Jeff Williams.

Orosco has a sore tailbone.

9) The Diamondbacks set the major league record with their 13th pinch hit HR of the season, breaking the mark of 12, set by the 1957 Reds, 1983 Mets and 2000 Dodgers.

10) Roy Oswalt became the first Astros rookie to have at least 10 wins since Jim DeShaies (12--team rookie record) and Charlie Kerfeld (11) did it in 1986.

1) Redsox LF-DH Manny Ramirez tweaked his hamstring yesterday and is expected to miss 2-3 days. Meanwhile, CF Carl Everett missed the past couple of games, due to a sprained knee, with MGR Joe Kerrigan saying he'll be out for 2-3 more days, while Kerrigan has hinted that SS Nomar Garciaparra will be rested tonight.

2) A's MGR Art Howe says Mark Mulder, who left Saturday's game due to back spasms, won't have to miss his next start.

3) Cardinals INF Placido Polanco miss today's game, due to the death of his father in law, and is expected to return tomorrow.

4) The Yankees will activate P Orlando Hernandez from the DL tomorrow.

Buckner, Garr, Rivers, - didn't they all have the same swing? :D

"The BlueJays designated P Chris Michalak for assignment and called up P Scott Eyre.

Michalak had a 4.57 ERA and 4 RSAA in 23 games (18 starts) as a rookie. "

Gotta be more to the story here? How do you designate a LHP who has a 4.57 ERA as a rookie? I know he's older than your average rook, but, still..............
