For the first time in MLB History (well since 1890) the opposing pitchers for
a series shared the same first two letters of their last names.
MUssina/ MUlder
HItchcock/ HIljus
LIly/LIdel

weird, huh?

Thank you, honorable webmaster. Hi Lester, no I wasn't bored. :) I heard
that little snippet on 770 during the yankee broadcast sunday
when the O's Boston game faded out on my way back from Connecticut.
One of THEIR guys stayed up late and did the research. I don't care enough
about the Yankees to have done it myself!
I guess the odds are pretty phenomonal since that was the only time since 1890.
Baseball is full of weird things like that. I believe that's why I'm in love
with the game. It's weird. Baseball, that is. ;)

Weird in the sense that anything can happen - which is why I love it.

One of the Yankees's broadcasters didn't stay up and do the research. The real research was done by the Elias Sports Bureau and the information was included in the press notes.

Both of their radio broadcasters, Michael Kay and John Sterling, think they are comedians, but they are neither funny nor good baseball broadcasters. One of Kay's standard jokes is to claim he travels with a room full of baseball encyclopedias and stays up all night researching everything.

I really didn't know that, but I thought it was a cool enough "stat" to share here. I'll check out your link. Looks interesting. :)
