Chadster is making quite a list for himself - - Kevin Mitchell in Cleveland, Jeter in NY, and now Clayton and Pudge in Texas. Any ideas on this one?

Rodriguez, Curtis had dugout confrontation
ESPN.com news services

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers will take no disciplinary action following a dugout argument between All-Star catcher Ivan Rodriguez and reserve outfielder Chad Curtis.

Rodriguez and Curtis had little to say Sunday about the angry words exchanged the previous night when Rodriguez was allowed to leave during the game to attend to a family medical situation.

"It's between me and him," Curtis said. "We're teammates and I'm not going to discuss another teammate through the media. There's no issue. It should be left alone."

Rodriguez was back in the Rangers' lineup for Sunday night's game against Tampa Bay.

The Dallas Morning News had a different account of the situation. The newspaper reported that the players' confrontation -- and not Rodriguez's family matter -- led to Rodriguez leaving the game.

Rodriguez received a phone call from his wife, Maribel, before Saturday night's game informing the player about what the club termed a "family illness." Rodriguez had been given permission by manager Jerry Narron to take himself out of the game after the fifth inning.

Curtis, who has been on the disabled list since May 3 with a pulled right hamstring, made a comment to Rodriguez about leaving the game.

The two argued briefly but there was no physical confrontation. Rodriguez then left the dugout and went home.

"Something happened at home and I needed to be there," he said. "It's private and I want to keep it private. I don't want to say anything more about it."

Narron downplayed the incident and said neither player would be fined.

"Do you always get along with your brothers and sisters?" Narron said.

Curtis argued last season with then-teammate Royce Clayton over the choice of music played in the clubhouse, and he also had problems with teammates when he was with the Indians and Yankees.

If the Rangers were winning, people would call this good team chemistry--competitive natures flairing up off the field and then resulting in winning games on the field.

Since they are losing, people call this bad team chemistry.

That's the part that has me confused. Where's Texas going? If Pudge wants to play a half-game, for whatever reason, who cares? I have no idea what could have set Curtis off?

Assume for a second that there was no family illness or that Curtis heard Pudge say his kid had a cold or something. Still no understanding of what set Curtis off?

:agree: I think I see what you mean on this one Buzz.

And, I suspect that Pudge just may have a bit of a star-tude which could rub a guy like Curtis the wrong way? Curtis is a deeply religious, work-out-addict, no nonsense kind of guy. He's really a throw-back type player. I know that when he was in NY, it was his idea that the Yanks not spray each other with booze because it was a bad thing for Strawberry - that tells me that he cares about his teammates, even though he now has a history of brushes. Plus, I think if he was wrong in this case, Texas would have made a point to say that he was instead of sweeping it as "family fight - no big deal." The more I think about it, I probably can guess what set him off.

I guess my point, which I think you get, is what kind of message does it send when a veteran, leader player of a team bails out in the middle of a game? Maybe there was a legitimate emergency at home, I don't know. But if there wasn't, and I am guy with a burning desire to win, and a guy like Pudge takes off, I am pissed. Losing like that puts strains on a team.

I went back to the article - it read "family medical situation" - plus, he was back in the line-up the next night. Hmmm, I'm beginning to think it was not an "emergency" - since they would have wrote that and he would have been out the next day, most likely.

Is that really true? Boston is winning, but no one thinks they have good "chemistry," especially when Everett's around.

Didn't Darren Lewis just have a fight with someone?

Everett took a swing at Lewis or grabbed at his throat in the clubhouse last season. I don't know if there's been a more recent incident with Lewis.

I have heard some dumb comments on WFAN the past couple of days regarding this.

There are people saying that getting Garciaparra back could interfere with the good chemistry that the team built in his absence.

Nonsenical, sure, but it's being said by more than just 1 person.

Lee - this is redundant - - "comments on WFAN" already implies that they're dumb.

Well, if there's any extent to which it interferes with chemistry, Nomar's actual performance should more than make up for it. Assuming he's able to be Nomar, of course.

By the way, I agree with you that the theory is nonsensical. By all accounts Nomar is likable and a clubhouse leader. The only people likely to be unhappy by his absence are Lou Merloni and Mike Lansing, who will see reduced playing time.

Not much to brag about - they've probably never hung up on Jerome or Doris either.
