Copyrighted 1990, this book is largely informed by Robert Obojski's Bush Leagues, (for data) Bill James' Historical Baseball Abstract, (for viewpoint)and the SABR publications of Minor League Stars. There is a bit of history here, but mostly it is opinionated referencing of the relationship between the majors and the minors. There is also a Stew Thornley citation (this is for you, Skip) referencing his book on the Minneapolis Millers.
There are brief discussions of most of the influential minor leagues, such as the PCL, the International, and the Texas League. There are also chapters on Jack Dunn's Baltimore Orioles and the Newark Bears.
Most of the book decries the treatment of the minor leagues by the majors. If you are looking for raw information, look for Obojski's book. If you want writing with a viewpoint, this is the place.
And I happen to agree with him!
