Greetings Folks! Welcome to the Saturday edition of Under The Knife. I can’t promise you that I will be as witty as Will, but I can tell you that I’m always entertaining in my own way. Speaking of Will, I’d like to take this chance to wish him an early Happy Birthday. Those of you who have had the chance to interact with Will at any time know that he’s a great guy and deserves to have a very wonderful birthday. But, then I deserve to have an EVEN BETTER birthday just a few days after his!

As I sat watching my Cubs lose to the White Sox this afternoon, I kept seeing promos for the upcoming All-Star game on July 9th. I have always found myself somewhat bored when I have watched the past All-Star games. I think it would be more entertaining if they had the Anti-All-Star game. I think we should be allowed to vote for who we think are the WORST players in baseball. I’d like to see these players put together and given a chance to play a game. This kind of game would make for some interesting stats. In the typical All-Star game, you know these players are the “best” of the “best” and of course should perform well. Where’s the fun in that? I’m all for the underdogs and underachievers being given a chance to shine!

We’d like to apologize for the problems that have been caused in receiving UTK on a timely basis from Yahoo Groups. We will be moving to a new host soon! If you do not receive your issue, please feel free to check it out over at netshrine.com.

Before getting to the injuries, I’d like to note that Will sends word of an exciting new feature here at UTK. Former first round pick Matt Thornton of the Seattle Mariners will be giving us his unique perspective on the rehab process. Unfortunately, like many young pitchers, Matt is undergoing Tommy John surgery and for the next eighteen months, he'll be sharing his struggles and successes with UTK subscribers. Keep Matt in your thoughts - Tommy John surgery may be routine, but it's not any fun. His journal will be a big part of the web site starting soon! We here at UTK are very excited about the upcoming unveiling on the official site.

It doesn’t look to be that busy of a day in injuries, but I’ll give you what I know.

J.D. DREW missed Friday’s game due to tendentious in the right knee. They believe he’s had it for awhile, but it only seems to flare up from time to time. This, of course, is not the best time for that to happen. Hopefully, they can get him some treatment for his knee and will possibly return for Sunday’s game. ANDY BENES, who also suffers from a knee injury and has been on the DL for awhile now, started the game on Friday night down in Memphis. If all goes well, he’ll make a couple of more starts down in Memphis and return to St. Louis by mid-July. Unfortunately, with the Cardinals recent loss, BENES must be feeling added pressure to return as soon as possible.

STERLING the YANKEES due to a sprained lower back placed HITCHCOCK on the 15 day DL. This is retroactive back to June 18th. Sterling, which I think is just a way cool name to have, could return next weekend. Though with the upcoming all-star break, it’s possible that he will be given the chance to rest until after the AS game.

Some people prefer to leave their hearts in San Francisco, but it sounds as if JEFF KENT, second baseman for the GIANTS, may very well take his with him. Kent has decided he’d like to test the free agent market after the season is over. I would think that if the Giants can’t hold their own throughout the rest of the season that Kent might make for good trading. On another Giants note, J.T. SNOW was scheduled to have x-rays today after having left the game last night after five innings due to feeling a pain in his foot.

The EXPOS appear to be a constant thread of discussion for UTK this week. MICHAEL BARRETT suffered a strained left hamstring during today’s game. He did manage to hit a home run for the team before having to leave the game. That’s the way to earn your keep! Looks like we have another knee injury to report tonight. JOSE VIDRO also left today’s game after feeling pain in his right knee. Have these guys not heard of Advil??

Ok, now this injury sounds downright painful to me. JACOB CRUZ of the TIGERS was placed on the 15 day DL retroactive back to last Sunday. He’s suffering from bone chips in his left elbow. Say it with me, OUCH!

KEVIN MILLWOOD is my last injury of the night. Kevin pitched a fabulous six innings before leaving with a blister. He struck out 10 batters and gave up only one run. Luckily, the BRAVES held it together for the rest of the game and Millwood got the win.

That’s it for me tonight folks! I hope you have enjoyed this installment of UTK. If you’re looking for some intelligent baseball discussions, head over to Netshrine at netshrine.com. You can also always find the newest UTK reports at the Shrine.

Have a good night and be sure to say Happy Birthday to Will tomorrow!!

Don't get me started on Advil.

I was (somewhere) earlier this year and saw the biggest frickin' bottle of Celebrex you'd ever wanna see. Didn't anyone learn from Alonzo Mourning?

well, if you pit the worst pitchers against the worst batters, something's got to give. so why not have a game of all-stars vs all-scrubs. then we can all root for the underdogs. pat rapp strikes out barry bonds! donnie sadler singles off randy johnson!
