1. my "real" name is carla

2. I was raised a Yankees fan; the A's are my adopted children but they are in need of a spanking

3. Steve invited me here when I got frustrated with the level of discourse at a certain rah-rah Yankees forum

4. What I love about this forum is the diversity of baseball perspectives and the incredible wealth of knowledge. I have enjoyed baseball all my life but was not a serious student of the game until quite recently. I can learn a staggering amount about baseball by listening to what folks have to say here. Sometimes I get quiet on the baseball fora just because there's so much to learn. Plus the folks are nice.

5. hm... I used to be a physicist but I decided it wasn't for me and went to law school, which I have just completed. This is typical of me: I have breadth but little depth; a dozen hobbies and interests that I attempt to pursue in parallel, in the end doing none of them justice. this includes interest in and pursuit of baseball, literature, old movies, sleight-of-hand, chess, playing cello, playing bass guitar, gourmet cooking (in no particular order). If I had the attention span to pick two and stick to them...

For those of you who do not know Carla, I can best describe her as someone who is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.

She is quick and whitty.

I love this forum because I was able to meet other female fans!

Just as it shouldn't matter whether a player is gay or not, it shouldn't matter if a fan is male or female. Just being a fan of baseball makes someone OK in my book! ;)

hmrsf - :o :o :o thanks.

Steve, your forum reflects your values in this particular area. Once not too long ago, on a USENET forum (alt.sports.baseball.ny_yankees, I think) I encountered an environment where women weren't taken too seriously and it's led me to be cagey in new fora. Here, I needn't have worried about it.

Sounds oddly like myself, and probably why I am in teaching rather than research or something I can actually make money doing.

Satch - I'm glad you feel comfortable enough here that gender disclosure is not an issue. If fact, it's an honor to have so many female fans (that are so knowledgeable about the game) being part of the forum - - besides the civility and maturity here, the diversity is also one of the strengths of this forum, IMHO.

I had no idea Satch was a female until she ordered an encyclopedia and sent along an email message saying, by the way, I'm satch.

Yeah, I also always thought of Carla as a 6'3, 180 lb. black man who hides his age and throws a mean hesitation ball. ;)
