D'backs have a catcher, Brad Cresse, on the farm. (Yes, the son of Mark Cresse.)
He's one for the Ultra roster. Why? His godfather is Tommy LaSorda. Last power hitting catcher with Tommy as a G-father turned out OK. It's like a lucky charm.
Remember when LaSorda was the baseball genie? Now, those were the days............

My only positive recollections of Lasorda are (1) him running out onto the field flapping his arms around like a three-year-old after beating the Yanks in the '81 Series, and (2) that great tape of him responding to a reporter's question about Dave Kingman's 2-HR performance.
Other than that, the man was an obsessive self-promoter who ruined countless pitchers' arms (Valenzuela and Ramon Martinez being the most prominent) and then proved himself to be a stupid GM. Oh yeah, and he trashed Sheffield this spring. Malone should've slugged him.
His godson did turn out to be an OK ballplayer.

Still surprized that some nut never cut him open to see if he really bled Dodger blue........esp. some of the players that he ran out of town.

There's just 1 little problem.
Tommy Lasorda's godson is not playing in the majors.
Lasorda is really Piazza's brother's godfather, but the media has never allowed the facts to interfere with a story.

Now that you wrote it, I remember that............
........but, baseball is full of that. Like how Catfish got his nickname.

And the number 1 myth of all time was Ruth's sale to the Yankees was to finance No No Nanette.
The very well researched book The Babe in Red Stockings did an outstanding job showing every piece of evidence contradicted the story.
Also, I've heard there's good material rebutting the myth in a book entitled The Redsox Century, but I haven't had a chance to read that one yet.

You have to fill us in on that - - believe it or not :eek2: (in the words of Johnny Carson) "I did not know that."

I just have to find a copy of a post I sent to SABR-L a couple of years ago, which I'll reproduce here.

I found the post.
Since the topic would really belong in Baseball History, I'm going to start a new thread there.
