No, this is not about Barry. It is about Mike F'ang Hampton. Two dingers out of his bat gives hime 4 for the season. Reb Russell holds the single season record at 12 going back to 1922. Hampton have a chance?

I thought the NL HR record for pitchers was 7 (Newcombe 1955) and the ML (AL) record was 9 (Wes Ferrell 1931)?
Obviously, if I have the records right, the NL mark is his, easy - playing in Coors.

Buzz - - I think this is where you got caught:
From CBS Sportsline: "As a rookie sensation with the White Sox in 1913, Russell was 22-16 (1.91). Although he never matched those figures, he was 18-11 in 1916 and led the AL in winning percentage (.750) with a 15-5 mark for the World Champion Sox of 1917. Released with a dead arm early in 1919, he returned to the ML as an outfielder with Pittsburgh in 1922, hitting .368 with 12 home runs and 75 RBI in only 60 games. "
Reb's NetShrine entry:
Ewell Albert "Reb" Russell
1913 - 1923 (Chicago AL, Pittsburgh NL)
One of the top pitchers in the AL from
1913-18. Suffered arm woes & came
back as an OF w/Pirates in 1922-23.

Yup - that looks to be where I went astray. Good catch. Thanks. He should easily get the NL mark.

Wonder how it will be noted, if broken? It's not every day that at 70 year old record falls.
Will it be a lead story? Or, just a mention in some game notes somewhere?
