Yahoo Life voted Curt Schilling the Most Wired Player.

Schilling is a nut when it comes to technology. Interesting article.

I know next to nothing about the game, but those trash-talking sessions he had with Glanville over Everquest were hilarious.
I didnt really get it. So he has a Palm, a portable DVD, and a laptop - is that really all that rare in 21st century millionaires club baseball? Maybe it is. I'd imagine playing computer games is also pretty common, though playing interactively over the internet instead of Nintendo, etc. is probably not nearly as common.

When I first read the title of this thread, I interpreted it as Most Whiny Player, which, let's face it, if I have to hear Schilling whine one more time about anything that doesn't go his way on the field, I'm going to be sick. I'm surprised he's still not complaining about Ben Davis' bunt single in the 8th that broke up his no-hitter.
:nopity: :nuke:
Sorry. Was that over the top?

I'm definitely going to like this guy. :D
[LJ-RJ: I do not like Curt Schilling, and sometimes feel as if I'm the only one ;) ]

I dont recall Schilling doing any complaining - just Mr. Unwritten Rules (the first) Brenly.

I've posted this once before - sorry to repeat for some of you:
I really don't know that much about Schilling - but, the stuff you hear (the letter to America after 9/11, all the ALS work and donations, student of the game - his kid is named Gehrig, no?, publicly open about his battle with chew, etc.) doesn't exactly make him out to be public enemy number one.
Plus, like him or not, the (I say this as a Yankee fan) dude came through in October/November for his team - on the field and as a leader, IMHO.

Well, as a *player* there's not much to dislike. I think he came through for them starting in April, with emphasis on the postseason.

I didn't realize Schilling was so disliked. I never had a problem with him.

Curt Schilling has always been one of those players that I've always loved to hate. I went to college in S. Jersey and was surrounded by Phils fans, esp. during the 93 World Series. In the past 10 years, I've had more than my fair share of Schilling.
While Schilling does do public good and performs v well on the field, it's his outspoken, cocky, holier-than-thou attitude that drives me up a wall. I'll reference his recent comments about why he beat the Marlins and Josh Beckett as proof. I'm paraphrasing, but it basically went something to the extent of 'At midnight last night, I was up studying game tapes. He was probably sleeping. This morning, I was going over scouting reports. He was probably sleeping.' How does he know what Beckett was doing? Where does he get off presuming that no one works harder than him?!?!
You're a student of the game? Fine. You work your butt off to prepare for each start? Great. You make sure the roof is closed every time you pitch at home? Whatever. But don't presume that you're the only one who does it.

I've never liked him since he blamed Mitch Williams for blowing the World Series for "him". Props to the Yanks for not pointing fingers at anyone. errr, well, everyone except Rivera.

That more or less sums up how I feel, if it wasn't clear from my other posts (which is entirely possible, if not likely :))

Getting back on topic (sorry gyb), if Schilling is so wired, why don't we try to get him to Netshrine? I'll be nice :)

Schilling is a jerk. In his interview in Maxim he was talking about how much he admired Clemens and his bat-throwing antics v. Piazza. I respect hard, competetive, respectful players like Pedro. Throwing inside and hitting players is part of the game, but nobody should enjoy it, and worse still, nobody should condone throwing a bat at a player as part of that competetiveness.
Yes, he's still whining about that broken up no hitter, never mind it was only 2-0 and the heart of the order was coming up, a homer could have tied it. I guess it's no wonder he respects Clemens so much--assholes of a feather flock together.

Schilling likes to hear himself talk and maybe thinks he's a bit smarter than he really is, but he really is a great all-around guy.

(no sarcasm here for a change): Have you met him?

Yes I actually met him at a hockey game once, but that's not really what I'm talking about. I mean, I don't think it's generally a good idea to judge people based on TV but Schilling does a lot for local charities, and seems to always be trying to use his role as a star athlete to do good things.
he also seems like a generally nice guy. someone you could hang out with and drink beer and talk about sports, women, etc. he's one of the few professional athletes these days that seems to genuinely be interested in what the fans are thinking.

I, too, dislike Schilling's persona. But we can't all be Carl Everett, can we?:D
