So, Penthouse has nudes of Anna Kournikova and they intend to publish them - - and, she's pissed over it.

What did she think would happen with those pictures when she posed for them? :confuse2:

The story I read was that she did not pose for the pics. It was another case of a photographer with a long lens catching her in the nude. Unfortunately for her, the courts have allowed such pictures to be published.

:homer: Hmmmm... Anna. Y'know, she just doesnt do it for me.

However, anyone surprised at the paparazzi sort of deserves what they get. Not fair AT ALL, but c'mon, where do these people live if they expect otherwise.

Interesting. Still, best way not to get in that spot is to stay inside and away from the windows when going natural. Careless of her, IMHO.

What a stupid and ridiculous point to even give attention to.

So when does this issue come out?

Penthouse, agency in dispute over nude photos (http://espn.go.com/tennis/news/2002/0425/1374096.html)

ESPN.com

Exclusive nude photos of Anna Kournikova "caught close up on a nude beach" are promised on the June cover of Penthouse, which went on sale this week.

An attorney representing the magazine said Penthouse believes the pictures are real, but representatives of Kournikova claim it isn't the Russian professional tennis player.

A spokesman for Octagon, which represent Kournikova, claims that not one of the photos splashed across the 10-page pictorial is of Kournikova and the agency plans legal action.

"People who know Anna and see the photos will immediately recognize these are not photos of her," Octagon spokesman David Schwab said. "Penthouse has left us no alternative but to pursue legal action and protect our client's rights and interests.

"The topless photographs in the article are so dissimilar to Miss Kournikova that the magazine acted either intentionally or with reckless disregard for the truth in order to exploit our client and make a profit."

But Victor A. Kovner, an attorney who said he would defend Penthouse in the event of a lawsuit, told ESPN.com on Friday that "the magazine has investigated this carefully and is confident that this is indeed Miss Kournikova."

Kovner said the magazine received a letter earlier this week from Octagon requesting to see the pictures. Kovner said he sent back a letter with copies of the pictures "so they could see that nothing about this is anything but flattering and favorable to Miss Kournikova."

"They are lovely pictures of her," said Kovner, who noted the photos were taken on a beach in Florida. "But I can understand how there might be commercial reasons why she would deny this."

Schwab said Thursday night that "the magazine committed numerous violations of Miss Kournikova's rights, including portraying her in a false light."

"We will be communicating with the publisher immediately and will take all appropriate actions to protect our client's rights and image," Schwab said.

Kournikova, who has yet to win a singles title since joining the WTA Tour, announced Thursday she would withdraw from upcoming tournaments in Berlin and Hamburg -- both considered tuneups for the French Open, which begins May 27. Kournikova currently is ranked No. 69 in the world.

Yeah, because Penthouse always has such "flattering" pictures of women in their magazine. I like how they make it sound like it's some kind of tribute to her, and not just a shameless attempt to sell magazines.

So is it true that Enrique Iglesias is having clay and hardcourt surfaces installed at his American home so Anna can spend more time there? I know she's good-looking, but come on!

He is very, very rich. He can do anything he wants with his money. If he can spend something like 30 grand, and that will cause the beautifull Anna to spend more time there it is a wise investment. Heck, maybe he likes to play too.

Woman claims 'Kournikova' photos are of her (http://espn.go.com/tennis/news/2002/0506/1378850.html)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Darren Rovell
ESPN.com

She's married, has a 2-year-old child and is suing for $10 million after Penthouse Magazine published topless photos of her in its June 2002 issue.

No, it's not Anna Kournikova.

The plaintiff is Judith E. Soltesz-Benetton, whose husband is the son of billionaire fashion designer Luciano Benetton. She claims it is her, and not the 20-year-old Russian tennis beauty, who was caught sunbathing sans her bikini top on a Miami beach.

The pictures are believed to have been taken about seven years ago, according to the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court in New York on Monday.

Tuesday, Penthouse apologized, saying: "We deeply regret this unintentional error and offer heartfelt apologies to both women."

In the statement, Penthouse said it had examined the purported images Kournikova in "painstaking detail" and received assurances from the photographer before deciding they were genuine.

"We were wrong," the magazine said. "In over 30 years of publishing this magazine, we have never made an error of anything approaching this magnitude."

The lawsuit also claims the plaintiff's pictures were used for advertising purposes in New York State, home of Penthouse's corporate parent, General Media Communications, and asks to "immediately recall all unsold copies of the June 2002 issue."

"We think this suit should be dismissed," Victor A. Kovner, the attorney representing Penthouse, told ESPN.com. "It wasn't an ad for anything. This was a newsworthy article and maybe there were wrong photos, but it was an honest mistake. We will go about correcting the wrong photos as any news organization would."

Soltesz-Benetton's attorney disagrees.

"It's only a newsworthy article if the picture has a relationship to the story, and there is no relationship between my client and the story of Anna Kournikova," said Judd Burstein, who recently won a $8 million judgment on behalf of English boxer Lennox Lewis. "The story is fictional as well because at the time the pictures were taken Anna Kournikova was only 13 or 14 years old."

On Monday afternoon, District Judge Denny Chin issued a temporarily injunction barring Penthouse from posting the "Kournikova" pictures on its Web site and prohibited the magazine from printing more copies of the issue.

The apology "is a month late and $10 million short," Burstein told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

A hearing on the preliminary injunction will be held on May 14.

David Schwab, a spokesman for Octagon, which represents Kournikova, said "Octagon is prepared to take action later this week on behalf of Miss Kournikova."

Soltesz-Benetton married Rocco Benetton in September 2001. The Benetton family has a combined net worth of $4.9 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

Kournikova seeking damages in excess of $10M (http://espn.go.com/tennis/news/2002/0507/1379640.html)

By Darren Rovell
ESPN.com

Attorneys representing Anna Kournikova filed a lawsuit Tuesday on behalf of the 20-year-old Russian tennis star against the publishers of Penthouse Magazine.

The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, claims the magazine featured a 13-photo spread of a topless woman the publication promoted as Kournikova, portraying the tennis player in a false light, invading her privacy and defaming her name.

"This case concerns a magazine so desperate for circulation that it trumpeted to the world a total fabrication that it was printing nude photographs of international tennis star Anna Kournikova when, in reality, the photographs depicted someone else," the lawsuit states.

"(Penthouse) exploited and misappropriated Anna Kournikova's good and valuable name, image and likeness in the basest, most humiliating way for its own crass commercial purposes."

Kournikova's attorneys are seeking damages in excess of $10 million and demand the magazine to destroy all plates and molds regarding the "Kournikova" article and photos.

Kournikova's lawsuit follows the lawsuit filed in U.S District Court in New York by Judith Soltesz-Benetton, the woman who says the photos are of her and were taken about seven years ago on a beach in Miami. Soltesz-Benetton, whose father-in-law is the famous fashion designer Luciano Benetton, also seeks damages in excess of $10 million.

On Monday afternoon, U.S. District Judge Denny Chin issued a temporary restraining order against Penthouse that required the publication to cease distributing more copies and putting the "Kournikova" pictures on the publication's Web site.

"The way Penthouse has used this shows me Penthouse doesn't really care whether it's true or not, only whether it sells issues and get people to the Web site," Chin said.

In a statement issued Tuesday under the headline "Penthouse Apologizes," the adult magazine claims it was led to believe the pictures were genuinely of Kournikova.

"We deeply regret this unintentional error and offer heartfelt apologies to both women," the statement said. "In over 30 years of publishing this magazine, we have never made an error of anything approaching this magnitude. We can only say, 'We're sorry' to the two women."

"Their apology is as fake as the photos," Octagon spokesman David Schwab told ESPN.com on Tuesday night.

According to Kournikova's suit, the tennis player was "distressed, embarrassed and angered" over the issue.

Anna doesn't have too much to complain about. If it wasn't for all the talk about her looks she couldn't make a dime playing tennis.

The Bennetton woman has to be kidding right. She keeps her mouth shut and not a person on this planet knows it's her.

On the other Penthouse ought to be above nudie pictures taken with long lens cameras.

Is there any chance that the court will deny her the money and instead award her a singles tournament victory? That's really the only way she'll get one.

And if anyone finds out that there really are such photos of Anna out there, please let me know ASAP. :)

Did you see Saturday Night Live? Kirsten Dunst was playing Anna K and Will Ferrell as Bob Guiccione offered her a Wimbledon plate that he stole from Goolagong. (Pardon any spelling errors... those are tough names.) Needless to say, Anna K accepted and everyone was happy.

This is now making a turn towards the ridiculous.

http://espn.go.com/tennis/news/2002/0514/1382451.html

Among others: The testimony came during an unusual day of courtroom theater. First came the apology. Later, the judge studied the Penthouse pictures as the magazine's publisher, Bob Guccione, defended the likenesses of each woman's wristwatch, freckles and the "attitude of the pinkie," as in the direction they like to point their smallest fingers.

After reading that article, I don't know how anyone could disagree. I hope Ms. Bennetton and Anna get whatever they ask for. Not because I have any particular sympathies for them, but because you know that Guccione is lying through his teeth yet again.

Soon to be heard:

Guccione: The woman in the photo had nipples on her breasts. We've heard from a reliable source that Ms. K also has nipples on her breasts. Your honor, the assumption we made was based on this solid connective fact. I motion that the case be dismissed!

Maybe Anna K and the Bennetton woman on Celeb Boxing 3.

It turns out they are old pictures too:
Soltesz-Benetton, who is four months pregnant and has a young son, alleged in her lawsuit that the photos were taken while she was sunbathing topless in Miami about seven years ago.
