Just was curious to see what was happening this year.
1. Detroit has the fifth highest BA in the AL, but is next to last in runs scored with 52. Why? They're 10th in OBP, having taken just 37 walks all season, and have hit into 19 DPs.
2. Montreal, while batting a pedestrian .268, has scored 95 runs (helped mightily by Cruz and Osborne, I know). They have the highest OBP in the NL.
3. The ChiSox have a .494 slugging, and a .366 OBP, in scoring 99 runs. Only the M's, with 111 have more. The M's have a higher OBP but a lower slugging.
4. The Mets can't get on base, and can't slug, but somehow are seventh in runs scored with the fourth worst OPS. Plus they are 5 for 11 stealing and have hit into the fourth most DPs.
5. The NL is scoring 4.29 runs per game per team. Last year it was 4.70 runs per game.
6. The AL is scoring 4.88 runs per game. Last year it was 4.86.
So I guess its too early to tell, but still it looks like teams that get on base, don't waste outs, and have some power are succeeding.
