View Full Version : Why Was My Post Moved?

Occasionally, the Moderator will move a post from one forum to another. Often, this move occurs within the Baseball Discussion Forum. Why?

First, examine the descriptions to each forum within Baseball Discussion:

Current Events
Covering present day baseball, including things in the news - both on and off the field.

Baseball History:
This is the place for anything having to do with baseball's past.

Fantasy Baseball
The home for all you fantasy and rotisserie mavens.

The intent of the Fantasy Baseball forum is to have a place to discuss, at a higher level, the game of rotisserie or fantasy baseball; and, at a lower level, specific player performance and news (this season).

Granted, most of what is posted in terms of player performance and news could also easily fall into the Current Events or Baseball History forums - - a gray area does exist. For example:

"Has there ever been a pitcher as bad as Steve Trachsel this year?"

Hmmmm........"Has there ever been" could suggest it belongs in Baseball History. "This year" could suggest that it belongs in Current Events. But, it's about a specific player (Trachsel) - - so, it could be a Fantasy Baseball thread too? Where does it go?

In these spots, where there are multiple angles to the post, the rule of thumb is:

1. If it involves a specific active player (among the angles) in terms of his present performance or '"news" on said player, use Fantasy Baseball.

2. If the thread has nothing to do with a specific player but both Current Events and Baseball History are touched upon, (say "The Mariners are now 31 and 10. Is this the best ever?"), use Baseball History for the home.

Confusing? Don't let it bother you. That's why there's a Moderator to each forum. Related, just don't get in a huff if one of your threads is moved. It's no reflection on your ability to make decisions - - more so, it's just a judgment call by the Moderator.

And, yes, every once in a while, an inconsistency may occur - - since these are judgment calls. If you think you've spotted one, send me a Private Message and I'll look into it.

Even for illustrative purposes, this is nothing short of a provocation.

Just coincidence. :p

Another way to think about posts being moved -

Someone gave me this example:

If a guest in my house was urinating on the stove, chances are, I'll tell them to take it into the bathroom.

Basically, that's all that's happening when your post is moved. :)

Hey, Net - until I stumbled upon this today, I had never peeked in the fantasy baseball forum, because I don't have a team this year. But then I read your note above and realized that individual player news was being discussed there. What I'm getting at is that "Fantasy Baseball: for all you fantasy and rotisserie mavens" is a little misleading, and may discourage people who don't manage teams from peeking in. The discussions that go on there are of more general interest than your title implies.

Maybe you can change the title or the subtitle to reflect that there are player discussions there. A player's value to a fantasy team is arguably different from his value to a real team. Folks may want to discuss individual players even if they don't know a 5x5 from a barbecued chicken.

Great idea! I'll work on it later tonight. Thanks!
A friend once asked me what rotisserie baseball was - I said it was something to do in between microwave olympics.

Long ago I vowed never to bring this topic up again and I will honor that. Nice to see someone (Satchel) can affect some change around the 'Shrine, though.

The good thing about being new is I don't know which topics have been hashed and rehashed and beaten into the dirt. The bad thing about being new is I don't know which topics have been hashed and rehashed and beaten into the dirt. :)

Net - the new description of the Fantasy section is helpful. Thanks.

Don't worry. Once you cross the line over the set up of the Shrine, you will know it. (Between you and I, 'Net is a little sensitive about this.)
