Had to search to find if this thread already existed.

For those of you not familiar with the premise, the subtitle of this book is The New York Yankees in 1939. Since I'm not a Yankee fan by any means, I wasn't too sure what I'd think, but it turned out to be an excellent book.

The chapters are broken down by months (or innings). Instead of being simply a dry recounting of the team's performance, they provide detail and color for all the players, including the lesser lights. There's also a great deal of baseball history outside the Yankees written into each chapter.

Good examination of a great team during an interesting season of their storied history.
