Just got this one and read it. Pretty good book by Neyer and Epstein. Just wondered if people agreed with their conclusion of the 1939 Bombers as the best team ever?

Their conclusion was based on their methodology.
The question should thus be: do you agree with using standard deviations to assess a dynasty?

I liked the book. However, I think they overly discounted the teams from the dead ball era.

From their methodology, the greatest of all time would actually be the 1998 Yankees.

From what I recall, it seemed that subjectively, they both discounted the 1906 Cubs and rated them below what the numbers said they should and then made some perjorative comment about dead-ball era teams.
