I don't particularly feel like talking about this, but I suppose you guys have heard that the U.S. will carry the flag from the WTC attack, the one that I couldn't bear to watch at Yankee stadium, in Salt Lake for the Olympiad. The IOC had been resistant against doing this, due to their ban on political displays during such ceremonies, but apparently, they've changed their minds and have allowed them to.
I'm not sure why, but the fact they're doing this really makes me uncomfortable. It's said to be "a symbol of patriotism and triumph over evil", but I just see it as very difficult to be reminded of.
Tributes are nice and all, but you can sometimes go too far with them. This is evident by the company making medallions about the WTC from WTC concrete. Granted, this one is more sensible, but still, that flag has yet to strike me as a symbol of anything good, it's just another reminder of that day, and unlike the media, I would just as soon not like to be reminded of it this often. Besides, patriotism just feels like a way to make a buck these days, which kind of makes me feel further uncomfortable. For most people right now, say something good about New York City or the World Trade Center attacks, or have an American Flag visible in something you do and you get lauded. Really makes me sick.
Or something. I'm just not comfortable with reminders.
My apologies if I've potentially offended people with the remarks.
But anyway, maybe I just felt like getting your opinions on the WTC flag being carried in the Ceremonies of this Olympiad or whatever.
That I'm not particularly interested in the Olympiad is irrelevant. I've considered boycotting due to *NSync's presence at the Closing Ceremonies (nothing is as American as really bad music), and I really don't have much interest in anything besides the Jamaican Bobsled team and if they can beat the US again. And I have my sleep issues too. I just felt I'd bring this up.
*whew* I think I should just stick to making baseball trivia threads and that I should keep opinions to myself.
