I seem to remember in 1988 or 9 that Greg Maddux while with the Cubs won 15 games before the all star break. The rest of the season he was banged up and only managed 3 more wins. Is this true or is my memory failing me. How many other pitchers have made it to 15 before the allstar break? I really don't know how to research it and thought Smed might know.

Pedro Martinez had 15 wins before the break in 1999. I remember this because I was living in Boston and it was an astonishing number. I think he was 15-1 or 15-2.
The All-Star game was in Boston that year, and Pedro, starting in front of the hometown fans(*) gave it his all, striking out five out of the first six batters he faced. The effort took its toll, and Pedro got shelled a couple of times and then was up and down with injuries for the next month or so. Still, he finished the season 23-4.
(*) Right, like there were any tickets available for hometown fans!

Does anyone have an entire list for 15+ wins before the break?
