At Buzz' request, I've started this thread about pitchers who speak no English communicating w/managers who generally speak English only.
For things like overall instructions or advice, mound conferences, or simply when the pitching coach or catcher trots out to the mound to offer a quick word of advice, how is the language barrier broken?
I've known Hideki Irabu had his own translator, as does Orlando Hernandez. Orlando was aided by bilingual Hispanic teammates, such as Jorge Posada, Tino Martinez. How have others, such as Japanese pitchers who may not have Japanese-speaking catchers or IF players fared? I'm hoping to get great contributions, since this is somewhat outside of what I've normally discussed.
Thanks.
