I am absolutely sickened that Randy Johnson's twenty isn't put along side Clemens' and Wood's. He pitched nine innings in the course of a single game, just like them, and also like them, amassed 20 strike outs in that priod. It is irrelevant that the game lasted over nine innings. He did not even pitch more than that, and if he did, he would still deserve a share of the nine inning record, and, more likely, the extra-inning one as well. Whatever rule that causes this to even become an issue is appalling and ridiculous. What do you all think.

He struck out twenty in nine innings.

Baseball has proven to me time and time again that they can not make a correct decision if it meant the life of the sport (which it will eventually).

If they told mne the sky was blue, I'd bet my paycheck it was red.

I think Elias is the one to blame here - and, they're being very petty.

It's all labels - - just call it most Ks in 9 IP - - - I dunno? Does the Harvey Haddix thing come into play here?

If a relief pitcher comes in and pitches 9 innings
with 20 K's, is that in the same record book?

Good question.

Maybe it should be most Ks, by a SP, 9 IP? :D

Aren't rules meant to be broken? At least when they're silly, irrelevant rules? Too often there's always a catch, and this one just blows.

This is just a stupid decision, IMO. Johnson should get credit for the win & it shouldn't be one of those *asterisk* ones.

At least Alias has woken up and will now recognize that Johnson shares the record with Wood and Clemens. There will be no asterisk, but a notation that says he pitched the first 9 innings of an 11 inning game. I can live with that.

Funny - Johnson woould have had the NL record for most Ks in an extra inning game (like Cheney in the AL). Now, he loses that title - being tied with Wood for most Ks in a game, period.
