Just heard that (http://www.netshrine.com/vbulletin2/showthread.php?s=&postid=24804) Bill James' Win Shares book will be coming out in the end of March.

If anyone else gets it, let us know what you think about it.

I'm skeptical - but if he does find a way to factor in offense and defense that works, it should be interesting. It'll be nice to see how he actually arrived at Craig Biggio as the 4th best 2B of all-time, for example.

Will let you know - in case I get it first. BTW, congrats on passing the 1,000 mark. :thumb:

Having read the first 700 pages of James new Baseball Abstract it is no stretch to guess that the method of calculating win-shares is going almost incomprehensible to anyone who isn't a serious statistician.

Hope not - otherwise, I just wasted $19.99.

I'll bite, how did you waste $19.99 if the book is not coming out until March?

I had already ordered the STATS Scoreboard (http://www.netshrine.com/vbulletin2/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2049) - and when they called to say it was no longer coming out, they offered to switch the order to the BJ WS book. I said yes.

I'm just soso excited that we all get to finally spend our money on a book containing information that should have been in the NHBA. Its hard for me to get past the thought that this is a marketing flimflam to sell two books instead of one. Guess I am a cynic.

Hopefully the methodology will be so clean that there's no doubt of the legitimacy of it's perspective (even if you disagree with it). I hear Pete Rose is taking odds.

Thanks! Long way to go before I catch up with The Conscience, though.

There probably should have been a space in his title "Con Science" as in the science of the con.
