among all players with at least 5000 PAs, Jackson ranks 3rd in average behind Cobb and Hornsby
the fact that he's not in the HoF is one of the major reasons I don't recognize it as having any credibility
he was (unfairly) banned for LIFE
seeing as he's dead now, he's no longer banned, and should be allowed in

Jackson is still on Baseball's ineligible list, thus he is still banned from the HoF. I guess agreeing to take money to throw WS games is no big offense in some circles, but for the majority of us it is damning. Remove the romantic image of "Shoeless Joe", "Say, it ain't so, Joe" and the illiterate hillbilly who was taken advantage of by city slickers and the guy would get zero support from anyone.
Jackson could have been voted in at anytime by the HoF voters until the Rose fiasco, and they didn't do it.
As a player Joe was magnificent and could hit with anyone. As a person he made a tragic error in judgment.

taking money to throw a WS game when you're playing under COMMISKEY should be celebrated
