I'm preparing for a study and could use some input from my fellow baseball fans.

Which players, in your opinion, had the best career numbers prior to joining the Yankees?

Note the stress on "prior." This would kick out guys like Red Ruffing and, for most, Paul O'Neill.

Here, I'm looking for the Ruths, Mizes, A-Rods, etc. - and even the Kevin Browns and Jose Cruz Sr.'s.....

Thanks in advance!

Some that come to mind are Reggie Jackson, Enos Slaughter, Wade Boggs, Johnny Damon, Rickey Henderson, Jason Giambi, Gary Sheffield, David Cone, Tommy John, Urban Shocker, Jimmy Key, Mike Mussina, etc,.

Are you looking for all-time greats or something like Don Gullet?

As far as pitchers go, that Clemens guy was pretty good before and after.
