I heard he caught a lot of games too... Didn't hit, like, a really memorable home run? :loud:

I believe Deion finds Pudge to be quite memorable

Fisk has a 212 RCAA, a 116 WARP3, and a 117 OPS+ all of which are good but not exceptional. That is unless you are career catcher. As a catcher fisk ranks 11th in RCAA, 2nd in HR's, 2nd in rbi's, and 1st in runs. Competent career catcher who was notorious for the number and length of meetings he would have with a pitcher during a game.

Good career, worthy on the strength of his stats.
But, for those who want to use memorable as their criteria, I do expect you to vote no on him.
I just did a search of the forum on Fisk. In the past year, here are all of the mentions of Fisk on this message board--
1) 11/04/05 Cooperstown Confidential: Al Lopez's obituary mentions that he had held the record for games by a C, before it was broken by Bob Boone and then Fisk.
2) 12/26/05 ATM report: Fisk's birthday
3) 4/22/06 ATM report: Carlos Delgado ties Fisk on the HR list
4) 4/23/06 ATM report: Delgado passes Fisk on the HR list
That's it. No other mentions of Fisk in any other posts. Nobody talking about him in any context. And 75% of the times when he was mentioned, he was a throwin mention.
Different names are thrown around all of the time. One should expect a memorable player to at least get some mention from somebody other than Bruce or me. But, not single time did that happen.
With that kind of record, you can't really say that he is memorable, at least not to voters here.

I'm sure you will get better results if you use the rest of the internet.

The rest of the internet isn't the ones voting.
It just seems strange that people here people would consider a player to be "memorable" when he is so memorable that he doesn't even get any mentions here.

yes, but many of us use the rest of the internet and may have come across an image or two of that HR he hit in the '75 WS. Some of us may remember that game in Yankee Stadium where he & Deion Sanders exchanged words. Some may remember the "Fisk-Munson" rivalry, some may have attended the ceremonies where he was inducted into the HoF. Some may have gotten his autograph as a youngster, some may have mimicked his playing style, etc. etc. etc.
Because he may or may not be memorable to you doesn't mean he is or isn't memorable to others

I think Lee's point is this:
some people are voting a player in if he did something memorable in his career (Larsen, Dent, Maz, etc.)
if these same people don't find Fisk memorable enough to talk about on these forums at all, why should they find him memorable enough for NetShrine?

FWIW, I always thought Fisk was the Mickey Vernon of catchers.

That is correct.

Maybe I should put his name in my signature line.
The team logo for my fantasy team is a picture of Pudge walking out to the mound to throw out the first pitch of a game from the 2003 playoffs between the Red Sox and the Yankees. Standing on the Fenway mound he even found a way to say hello to the Yankees in the 3rd base dugout......
I was 12 when he came up and won Rookie of the Year honors and almost helped lead us to the post season (stupid strike shortened season...., not to mention Aparicio falling down rounding third base at the beginning of the season and at the end of the season).
I was 16 when he hit the home run - on a school night that my folks let me stay up to watch the whole game. That entire wonderful game helped me believe that anything is possible......
I was slightly older, slightly wiser, and instantly more cynical when idiots in Boston decided to let him leave through bureaucratoc incompetence - which merely highlighted an organization that just didn't care enough to do anything well.
I voted yes for him.
