235 career RCAA

5 year peak in which he was tied for 7th in the majors in RCAA (1960-64) with 195 RCAA

Quiet guy who hated the lime light, his record would probably still stand today (complete with asterisk) but for the advent of steroids.

And my dad pitched against him in college. Of course, dad likes to talk about the two outs rather than the liner that about took his head off...

Two MVP's, and he still has the non-juiced, single-season HR record. More than enough to get in.

OPS from 1960-1964 was 7th (.902) among all players with at least 1000 PA

I don't know if I am remembering correctly but wasn't he also an excellent fielder with a strong arm? I know must have had good speed since he was a high school all-american running back. So yes I vote for him (for the reasons already mentioned by others).

Nonjuiced?

What a joke.

If everyone who plays now is going to be suspect, then anyone who played in the drug crazed 1960s is also suspect.

So, Maris holds the record for most HR by a player on greenies.

Not everyone who plays now is suspect, but are you really defending overstuffed McGwire, Sosa and Bonds? That's a joke!

Yes, I am.

This witchhunt will be forgotten about pretty soon, just as soon as the media finds its next witchhunt to go on.

I am with you Lee. If we are going to look into every era there was something in question, then lets put an asterisk on every record in the books. I recall reading in one of Hank Aaron's biographies that he was told by a teammate that he should take some of the pills some of the guys on the Braves were using to gain energy. Hank stated he took them once, felt awful and had headaches all game, and never took them again. Anyways, wait until the next big "discovery", and the steroids issue will dissapate. By the way, I am all for Maris being enshrined.

Also, where is the evidence that steroids actually increase HR totals? The only "evidence" is just parroting the same old words without actually proving anything.

There are doctors that have expressed doubt as to whether steroids actually can improve things like hand-eye coordination and reaction time that is needed for power hitting. Counterargument to the doctors is always nothing more than but it does increase HRs.

And why conclude that steroids actually increases HRs and forget about the fact that it also decreases it? I will agree that it is possible that steroids could lead to some HRs. But, if steroids affects HR, then we must also take into account all of the HR that hitters don't hit as a result of steroids.

It's just look a scene at the beginning of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. The British Prime Minister couldn't figure out how the wizards couldn't just use magic to get rid of their foes. The response--the other side can do magic, too.

How about all of the HR that hitters lose because pitchers are throwing so much harder these days.

You could probably make a case that it has been forgotten already.

As for the topic at hand, if Maris was good enough for Monument Park, I'd say he's good enough for Netshrine :)

So, Maris holds the record for most HR by a player on greenies.

Others may have done so in the late 60's.
But, personal accounts say that Roger wouldn't touch the stuff.

We'll learn whether it's been forgotten next year when McGwire becomes eligible for the HOF. Do you think there is any chance he'll get in on the first ballot - a strong possiblity before the Congressional hearings?

Or do you think it will be forgotten in five years when Palmeiro becomes eligible? While some may suggest his record is more due to longevity than greatness, whether you agree or not, before the hearings his career stats would have made him a shoo-in as well, though maybe not first ballot. Now he has no chance at all.

Maris had a wonderful peak and broke what, at the time, what was the most precious record in baseball.

No way for the HOF
Way for the Gallery. Set a high-profile record in '61 that still stands, you PED apologists notwithstanding.

this is just another case of a guy who had several good years who is getting voted yes on because he is a YANKEE. that is NOT a reason to vote someone into a hall

so he has a HR record

big deal
