There have been only 4 major leaguers who attended this university and yet all 4 have been All-Stars. They combined for 15 All-Star Teams, 2 Rookie of the Year Awards, an MVP Award, an ALCS MVP Award, 12 Gold Glove Awards, 5 Silver Slugger Awards, 1 Home Run Title, 2 RBI Titles, and 8 Stolen Base Titles.

They managed over 1500 2B, over 300 3B, over 800 HR, over 2000 RBI, and over 1600 SB among them in over 30,000 career AB.

Can you name the university and the four players?

Awesome question, where did you come up with it?

I happened to be browsing through Baseball-Reference and saw a new feature that compares universities based on the total major league production of their alumni. Up until recently, you could see a listing of each school's alumni witht heir career totals, but not the total numbers by school. (They still don't have the pitching numbers totaled and listed.)

I thought about coming up with a trivia question that dealt with the schools with the most all-time major league HR (it's USC with 3311 entering this season), and I noticed that FAMU had a whopping 880+ HR, which really surprised me. So I opened up their page and saw these 4 alums sitting there and was just amazed.

And that was the way this became a trivia question.

Here's another one I got from that page (no cheating by going to it now):

There are 12 schools whose alumni have hit 1000 or more major league HR (entering this season). But only one of those 12 schools has never had a single hitter hit more than 200 career HR.

Name the school and the all-time leader in major league HR hit by the school's alumni.

Well, since no one was bothering to answer this, I'll answer my own question.

It's the University of Michigan and their all-time leading Major League HR hitter is Bill Freehan with exactly 200.

And, I'm too lazy....or tired, maybe....but how many players does Michigan have total?

There have been 71 players (entering this season) who have at bats in the majors who attended Michigan.

Of those, 25 have hit at least 1 HR, combining for 1,241 HR in total, good for a very surprising 5th place overall behind USC, Arizona St., UCLA, and Oklahoma St.

The U. of Michigan leaders:

1. Bill Freehan 200
2. Barry Larkin 198
3. Charlie Gehringer 184
4. Chris Sabo 116
5. George Sisler 102
6. Leon Roberts 78
7. Hal Morris 76
8. Mike Matheny 64
9. Dick Wakefield 56
10. Steve Boros 26
