He's been one of the most productive middle relievers in the league through out his career, with 3 years with a double digit RSAA, a 3.87 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.71, and 46 RSAA in 287 games.

As a Yankee fan, all I can say is:

Please, please, please, let the Mets get Mondesi. It would be entertaining watching that added to the mix. What a headcase.

What do you think the Mets would offer in return? Doesn't seem like they have much that would help Ricciardi - unless they trade alfonzo and play zeile at 3B, which will never happen

Good question - - perhaps it could be Zeile -- insurance for the rookie 3B in Toronto and an option at DH. Or, it could be a pitcher like Rusch or Chen - - but, then the Mets are getting real thin in the rotation. Could be Payton? But, that just gives Toronto another OF -- and, I assume they want to make room for Wells. Could it Benitez? I dunno. Guess we have to wait for the next ATM!

How bout Cliff Floyd? If/When Loria takes over down in Florida and gets a front office in place, he'd make a decent fit with the Mets - although they'd probably prefer another righty.

And again, I dunno if the two match up well - Marlins are already loaded with young pitching, and its not like the Mets have a bunch of offensive stars to offer in a deal.

I still could see a Grant Roberts for Gabe Kapler deal.

I think TX can get more value out of Kapler than that, esp. if they want young pitching.

How far has Roberts fallen? I know he was not great at Norfolk, but a couple years ago he was right up there with Escobar (not that that's saying much)

Normally, I'd agree that a Roberts-for-Kapler deal is a little weighted towards the Mets, but John Hart is the guy who traded Richie Sexson for Bob Wickman, Brian Giles for Ricardo Rincon, Sean Casey for Dave Burba, etc.

Roberts in Norfolk 2001: 30 G, 6 GS, 3-5, 4.52 ERA, 67.2 IP, 80 H, 19 BB, 54 K.
Roberts in NYMets 00-01: 20 G, 1 GS, 1-0, 5.45 ERA, 33 IP, 35 H, 12 BB, 35 K.
But if Roberts is still such an A prospect (and their only young one at that), would they settle for just Kapler.

As for Hart, you'd hope he has learned his lesson.
