Sometimes people just don't think these things through. Clemente's contribution to the game isn't at that level. Let the Pirate's retire his number and leave it at that. Had his flight to Nicaragua went as planned no one would even be contemplating this.

The push is coming from Pittsburgh. I for one, am SHOCKED :).

I don't think his number should be retired, any more than Babe Ruth's number be retired.

Having played in several leagues and parks named after Clemente, I understand what he means to the Latin community (and I would say that would only extend to Puerto Rican/Dominican communities; he doesn't seem to get much play in Central America, or South America), but I don't see him on the same level as Jackie Robinson.
