Is that done deal? I heard from my friend he said Jayson Stark just reported the deal is done...

Stark is now saying the deal has hit a "roadblock".

It's live until noon today
if they can't work it out by then
then it's dead, as they say

Thoughts?
This Red Sox fan hates it. All reports are now saying this is unlikely to happen.

I don't like it either. Bad enough to only get Huff and Cameron but then to toss in two prospects and money. No way.

I won't like it either is I'm a Sox fan, but I guess Sox have some thinking about 1. Manny's personalty that we never know. 2. how much money Mets will pay. 3. After this season Manny will be a 10-5 player then he can veto any trade, it will be very diffcult for Sox to trade him or not then.

I'm glad this trade fell apart.
Getting Manny Ramirez would be a big help for the Mets. I can't stand the Mets about a million times more than my dislike of the Redsox.
I just can't hate the Redsox. I have to agree with my old lawschool classmate, Bender. He wasn't much of a baseball fan, but at least Bender knew enough to remark that, "A Yankees fan saying he hates the Redsox is like the lions saying they hated the Christians. What do they have to hate?"
Also, I might need Ramirez in October. If the Yankees get that hated wildcard spot and the two teams meet again in the ALCS, I need Ramirez to have a big series and humiliate them.

I can't for the life of me figure out what Theo was thinking. Ramirez is a head case, but he's not a Richie/Dick Allen or Dave Kingman head case who sulks and plays bad ball. And given his contract, there's no chance of getting fair value for him unless you throw in a ton of cash. Trading him would make sense if you're, say, the Rockies or Brewers or the Tigers--he's not going to bring you to the postseason, and by dumping him, you can clear out a lot of salary room and maybe snag some good prospects. How trading Ramirez helps the Red Sox win a second consecutive world championship, which is what their goal should be, is beyond me.

My suspicion is that this deal was finished before it was ever discussed. I think the Sox eneded to hear what might be available, but I think unless they ended up with a clean-up hitter there was never a chance of Manny being traded. I see this as similar to palcing him on waivers a couple of years ago.... an off chance to light a little fire. Although annyone paying attention knows that you never can tell what will light a fire for Manny.....

From Hal Lebovitz's Sunday column:
(Hal's as inside as anyone when it comes to Cleveland sports)
POOR MANNY
It appears Manny Ramirez will be stuck in Boston or some other large city and unhappily take the $20 million annually the Red Sox now pay him. He regularly calls the Indians clubhouse to say he wants to come back. It would be a tremendous public relations lift to bring back Ramirez, but it simply isn’t going to happen. The Indians, or any other club, would expect the Red Sox to pick up at least $7 million annually of his salary. The Sox aren’t going to pay a competitor to take Ramirez off their hands, in addition to expecting a bundle of talent in exchange. So they’ll put up with Ramirez’s unhappiness, labeled privacy issues by Red Sox execs. Unless the Mets overwhelm the Red Sox, he’ll stay in Boston. Ramirez simply wants to be left alone, and that isn’t going to happen in Red Sox Nation. In fact, the only teams that can afford Ramirez are big city franchises such as the Mets, which would be just as uncomfortable for him. He had it cushy here, and he knows it.

Who could he be talking to in the Tribe clubhouse? It's been a while. I have to question that one.

Pretty funny poll on espn.com. They ask whether the Sox should trade Manny, and the consensus is no. But they now have a feature where you can click on a state and see what respondents in each state said. The only two states where a majority said that Ramirez should be traded were New York and New Jersey.

It could be that there's just some guy that works for the Indians that he knows. Because there are no players left from Manny's last season with Cleveland.
