In Tampa yesterday, the Yankees and Red Sox played a Spring Training game. (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/30/sports/baseball/30yanks.html)

However, on the same day, Curt Schilling pitched in the Sox minor league camp game (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05089/479637.stm) against the Pirates.

And, Randy Johnson also pitched for the Yankees in one of their minor league games (http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny-spunit0330,0,1538641.story?coll=ny-sports-headlines).

Since both Schilling and Johnson were pitching yesterday at the same time, why not let them face each other in the Sox-Yanks game in Tampa?

Why take this opportunity away from the fans?

It looks like Schilling will start the year on the DL. I believe that if he appeared in another major league game this spring, it would push back the date when he'd be eligible to join the roster.

Plus, he's never liked facing divisional opponents in the spring.

Spring training's main purpose should be to prepare for the regular season.

If you believe Schilling and Johnson should have faced each other do you also feel each team's regulars should have shown up and played the entire game?

Should it be that way for all exhibition games?

Early in the Spring, no. But, 5 days before OD, yes, I think the regulars should be playing most of the game.

Spring training games are simply exhibitions at this point. About as meaningful as pre-season football. Who cares who plays other than the people who are at the games?

Maybe it's just me being too jazzed with the season less than a week away and the book just about done?
