Who are the two pitchers who hold the "record" for the difference in career decisions amongst pitchers with the same name? For example let's say there were two pitchers named Sandy Koufax. One's record was 165-87 (252 decisions) and the other's record was 10-20 (30 decisions). This gives a difference of 222 decisions. Now find all the other combinations of pitchers who have the same name as another and see which set has the biggest difference.
Yes, the first name is included, but only in the form by which the pitcher is known. Sandy Koufax is "Sandy", not "Sanford". Nicknames as prefixes to a first name can be ignored. "Sad Sam" and "Sam" are the same thing. If a player is known mainly by his nickname (e.g. Dizzy Dean) then the nickname is what you have to match.

SBE cheats allowed? Obviously there are some common first names Phil, Roger, Tom and old hoss....and some obvious last names, cy
I'd guess without looking it up it's either a Young or a Phil....Cy and...what's his face the kid in Texas. or Niekro and someone.....There almost has to have been a phil-em-up guy sometime. That I can't think of one probably means very few decisions.

John Allen 0-0 career record
Johnny Allen 219 descisions
If I do the math that is 219. Is that the answer?

No, that is not correct, but you have the right idea. I

So two pitchers who had the same first name, but one of them used a shortened version of it, would not count?
If they DO count, then I've got it. The numerical answer is the sum of the AB/162 and RBI/162 of a certain player who once apon a time made like Jackie Chan while confronting a piece of furniture and broke his hand.

Ed Plank of 1901-17 had 520 decisions and Ed Plank of 1978-79 had 0 decisions
Michael Welch also has to be up their.
Michael (Mickey) Welch had 517 decisions
Michael (Mike) Welch had 2 decisions

Plank is correct.
The Welch supposition is not in accordance with the question.

So, I guess my answer of 694 decisions between Walter Johnson and Walt Johnson doesn't count, either. Fair enough.

It certainly counts as a guess and a good one, But Walter was known as Walter and Walt was known as Walt.

Bob Gibson (425 and 30) must be pretty high on the list.
