Expos Place Raines on DL

MONTREAL (AP) - Tim Raines was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday by the Montreal Expos due to a strained left shoulder.

Raines, 44, has appeared in 22 games for Montreal this year after missing the previous 1 1/2 seasons. He injured his shoulder one night earlier when he tried to avoid a tag at first base in the sixth inning of a 2-1 loss to Arizona.

Raines, who remained in the game and drew a walk in his next at-bat in the eighth, jammed his shoulder as he dove headfirst and reached out with his arm to touch first base while trying to get past Diamondbacks first baseman Mark Grace's tag.

Unable to lift his arm the following morning, Raines had X-rays, which proved negative.

Raines was hitting .265 (11-for-34) with two doubles and eight walks.

Montreal purchased the contract of outfielder Curtis Pride, who was in uniform for Friday night's game against Houston, from Triple-A Ottawa.

It is clear the guy does not want to get away from the game. I don't see why he should not become a coach. I know he wants to hang around long enough to be in the bigs when little Rock comes up, but that is unrealistic.

He should either become a coach with Montreal or go work for the Bailtimore organization.

Agreed Willy - - Little Rock is too far away from the bigs. And, shoot, Tim is even in the wrong league!
