What was the first team in history to have gone undefeated for 27 games in a row, and when did it happen?

Sorry, but there was one other team, and they achieved it first. This was a pre-1900 team.

The Red Stockings won 130 games in a row between 1869 & 1870, before the Brooklyn Atlantics defeated them.

Fair enough, as they were an all-professional team, at least from what I can gleam from the sketchy info provided by baseballlibrary.com. But the team I had in mind was the 1875 Boston Red Stockings, who won 26 out of their first 27, having tied one of the games against the Philidelphia Athletics. Of course, Al Spalding started all but two of those games, which means he (very probably, I don't know for sure) opened the season an absurd 24-0.

In those 26 games (ignoring the tie), the Red Stockings outscored their opponents by 226 runs.

This is all according to retrosheet, and it should be noted that baseballlibrary claims the Boston Reds' loss to St. Louis that year marked the end of a 21-game streak. Personally, I'd trust retrosheet more.
