View Full Version : Cox' Brave Clubhouse

Bobby Cox does not allow music to played out loud in the clubhouse - if you want to hear music, you have to use headphones.

Bobby says the music hurts reporters trying to do their job and does not allow for people to "think" because the music is too loud. He prefers for players to think about the game.

Does this practice hurt or help the Braves, with respect to the post-season? By this, I mean, they'll never have the "song" thing that some teams have (like the Mets with Mojo risin' or the Bucs We Are Family) which can sometimes bring a team together - but, then again, they'll never have Chad Curtis and Royce Clayton fighting over lyrics either..........

thoughts?

I remember when the Indians were in their playoff years and guys like Carlos Baerga and Alvaro Espinosa were said to blast latin/merengue music all the time. Evidently it wasn't such a bad thing then. I guess to each their own.

Cox is probably pretty smart to have that policy. People today seem to think their personal preference in music is the best and thus should be shared at the loudest volume to convince the non-believers.

Keeps a divisive issue out of the clubhouse.

I am in favor of anything that keeps rap, metal, most C&W, and Sister Sledge at a low volume.

Cox' policy strikes me as a bit anachronistic, but I don't question anything the man does.

:confuse:

Are we referring to on field or off field antics?

May 4th on that link says:

Atlanta Braves 6, Florida Marlins 3
W: Bobby Cox L: Rene Lachemann S: Brad Woodall

Bobby and Rene were pitching in that game?

OK, even Retrosheet doesn't even clear EVERYTHING up about that game.

Tied 3-3 after 8 innings, yet it shows the Braves scoring 6 in the 9th to win.

ATL N 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 6 - 6 11 0
FLA N 0 2 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 - 3 8 1
Game suspended at the end of the 8th inning with the score ATL 3 FLA 3.
Completed 9- 7-1995.
BOX
WP: Woodall (1-0)
LP: Nen (0-1)
SV: McMichael (1)
HRs: Grissom (1), Oliva (2)

Perhaps there were no outs in the 9th, with 3 runs already in and 3 runners on, because the full box credits Robb Nen with 6 R (5 ER) in 1 IP and his 1 IP appears to have been the 8th inning.

PITCHING
Atlanta Braves IP H HR R ER BB K
Avery 5.1 6 0 2 2 2 4
Wohlers 0.2 0 0 0 0 0 1
Stanton 1 2 0 1 1 0 0
Woodall W(1-0) 1 0 0 0 0 1 1
McMichael SV(1) 1 0 0 0 0 0 0
Totals 9 8 0 3 3 3 6

Florida Marlins IP H HR R ER BB K
Rapp 5 4 0 0 0 1 5
Perez 2 1 0 0 0 1 1
Nen L(0-1) 1 5 2 6 5 0 1
Groom 1 1 0 0 0 1 1
Totals 9 11 2 6 5 3 8

Box Score Craziness. Sorry for the tangent off of the original topic.
