How do his chances look now?

Obviously, his chances look much brighter than before this season. Finley is having a "last harrah" sort of season, but his 31 dingers has moved him up to 280 total. Only 20 players have hit 20 or more HR's from age 40 on so he is not a lock. Any additional HR's he hits this year will be a real plus.

You have to wonder, if he makes 300-300, and you factor in that he was a GG type CF, and has 2000+ career hits, and then you look at Kirby Puckett in the HOF, and...........

Andre Dawson has 400+ HR, 300+ SB, multiple GG CF, MVP, 2700+ hits, all done in a low-scoring era .... and not a sniff

Nope...not a perennial All-Star, not a lot of black and grey ink. Finley is definitely one of those guys that needs to hit the traditional counting numbers to make it.

If he enjoys his stay at the fountain of youth and can put up 4-5 more quality years, he has a shot.
