I'm not a fan of the author at all, so I'm hesitant to give it a shot. If I hear good things from others, I might reconsider.

I've just never cared for his writing, both on the ESPN site and in the magazine. Two things from him lately that annoyed me:
1) He couldn't shut up about how the Marlins got such a great deal in their trade with the Dodgers. To quote him, "Great trade for the Marlins, a deal that will give them a chance to win the NL East and perhaps defend their world title." Yeah, they've been upstoppable since that deal.....
2) He wrote an article in April dealing with productive outs, criticizing teams like the A's and Bosox for having two-dimensional offenses, and praising teams like the Tigers for things like "moving the runner over." I wonder now have the A's have managed to make it to first place, despite not bunting. Interesting that Boston has scored the most runs in the majors, despite an MLB-low 8 sac hits. Texas and the Yankees are both near the top in runs and bottom in sacs, too.

Sometimes, a writer has to pull a Cosell to sell papers, no?

Maybe - I just don't want to read the book if it's going to have that same low level of analysis. I'll give it a shot if others like it.
