Would wildcard teams get more respect if baseball called them something else besides the wildcard?
I dunno, maybe something like "Playoff Alternate" or something?

I'm sticking with the National Disgrace Doesn't Deserve To Be There, Hope At Least One Of Their Players Pulls An Alex Fernandez designation.

Well, last year's NL wild card team goes by the title "World Champions". The 2002 AL wild card goes by the same title. Sounds a little better than "Division Winner" or some such.

And unfortunately, the 1997 WS champ can say the same thing....DOH

As much as I dislike the WC... they have a nasty habit of winning the whole thing.
I think I have decided -- like the DH -- to let this one go. It's here.

I'm with Makofan: how about "the team that beat the pants off the "winner" of the weakest division in baseball"?
