For whatever reason I was thinking about Bill James comment in one of his books about how similar Andre Thornton and John Mayberry careers were. I thinn he ended up saying that they were the two most similar batters he could find (I can't remember the qualifiers he used).
Anyway for grins I went looking for similar pitchers with the only caveat that they have pitched 100 innings. I found Morris Amole and Pat Carney who have a similarity score of .995. I even calculated out their score and I got .997 (I don't know what I did wrong).
Amole was a LH starter for tge Baltimore Orioles (1897)and Washington Senators (1898) of the NL. In 18 games he posted a 4-10 record with 12 starts and a 4.75 era. Carney was a LH starter for the Boston Braves (1902-1904) of the NL. In 16 games he posted a 4-10 record with 12 starts and a 4.69 era.
Even more amazing was that both of these guys were nicknamed "Doc"!
Can you find any pitchers who are more similar??
