It really is a tough town.

How many games have the Sox won that weren't rantworthy because all the relievers came in at the right time and did their job? It's easy to point out when something goes wrong, but you can't point out when something doesn't go wrong. "It's a good thing he took Bob out when he did - the next pitch he was going to throw would have been a hanging curve that Joe would have hit into the parking lot." Dang - I'm defending the Sox. I feel so unclean.

Which just happens to be the MO of this columnist. If he were worth my time and effort, I'm sure I could find columns in which he took Jimy Williams to task for pulling his starters too early. If Arroyo had been pulled and Martinez had given up the hit, the column would criticize Francona for pulling Arroyo, who had made Vlad look pretty bad up to that point.

Good execution makes for good managing.

How/why has the CHB kept his job this long? Or, does he have a Cosell thing going - where people read what he writes so they can hate him some more?

Partly yes, and partly... well... there are those who read him and believe him. (And then they tune into sports talk radio).

I've made my opinion of him clear in the past... interesting though, on this point, he has put at least two phrases/sayings into the general sports lexicon -- "Red Sox Nation" is his creation (I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is his) and that stupid Curse thing.

For a guy nobody likes and nobody reads, he has an impact.

CHB is one of those writers who panders to folks who see the hear and now as the ever and always. One thing about being ignorant is that you have great confidence in yourself.

"And that wasn't the only thing that didn't work out for the skipper. In the seventh, Manny Ramirez jogged to first when he hit a flare into shallow left."

This surprises someone? Have they never watched Manny before?

Prior to groin injury, Manny has been making an effort to run out every play.

Back on topic, I have always said this about ShaughNasty: He is a real gentlemen, I am sure he removes the dishes from the sink before he pees in it.

He has nothing nice to say about anyone. He is just plain nasty!

We have a few threads on this SOB kicking around here.

If everyone ignored him, he'd be back covering minor league hockey in Bossier City - Shreveport (not that he did, but....)

Part of the reason is that he is actually a very talented writer. Or at least he was. He seems to have run out of original ideas though, so now he just writes about 5 basic columns over and over, plugging in the controversy of the day.

I am in the middle of my third CHB-free baseball season. It's better without him.

:topic: Crash, you're tossing around this "CHB" stuff pretty easily now. You keep this up you could become a Red Sox fan! :D
