I think Joe Torre should have taken his team off the field and sent them to the lockers and taken the forfeit.

Just wondering about any one elses thoughts and what you think the ramifications will be in Minnesota if any?

By the way, the section that was responsible for the foreign objects is a promotional section for highschool and college kids, 3 bucks a seat Mon-Fri, does this make a difference?

At first I wanted Torre to do the same. But how many people would have said the only reason the Yanks won, is because of the forfeit? I guess it was more of a loose with pride type of thing.

Even though it was only an imature section that was causing all the trouble, they suceeded on tainting the image of Twins fans. I don't know about anybody else, but when I hear of the Twins the first thing on my mind will be all the junk their fans threw at Knobby. Sure we forgive, but we definetly don't forget.

My only hope is that we roll out the red carpet for the Twins when they come to NY!

All that being said, there are no hard feelings towards the Twins fans or the Twins(not their fault), just bad memories.

I'm saying that the Yankees would have gotten the loss by forfeit if Joe just didn't send his team back out.

Anyway I don't hold it against the fans at all in fact I see the Minnesota faithful as the true victims here.

What we should be talking about is how good and exciting the young first place Twins are after they beat the World Champs two of three, but we're talking about maybe a hundred kids who can't handle a beer and puberty and were apparantly reared improperly

Torre was not in a position to take the team off the field and with that a loss. It would have been made doubly worse given the George would not have accepted that.

From what I understand, the umps actually issued three warnings. If that is true, I would think they should have called it after the second warning. It is kind of like being warned by a parent. Eventually, you got to go through with the threat otherwise the warning doesn't mean a thing.

And yes, I believe there is a direct correlation between the demographics of the fans in that section and the events that took place. No doubt about it. Not to say a group of adults are incapable of such behavior, but kids are more likely to act that way.

I agree that was bad, but I think some people are making a little too much out of what happened. Lets focus on the larger picture. The Yankees lost 2 of 3, and only scored 7 runs in 3 games. The offense is in a slump and then some, yet that gets overlooked.

I mean no player deserves to have objects thrown at them, but lets be honest it is not as if balls, glass bottles or seats was coming at the guy. Yes it was bad, but don't let me hear Bernie Williams say he was Scared.

I would like to say Knoblauch handled it like a true pro. He did not turn around and insite the fans, he did not have any real reaction, he did the right thing.

Agree entirely on the point of how Knoblauch handled it. Couldn't disagree more about the severity of the fans' actions. One of those quarters hits him in the eye and it is all over for him.

It may come to that if people don't learn how to behave. Wasn't it Chuck that got thrown either plastic, or glass bottles at him when he caught a fly ball to end the game (I can't remember if it was at Toronto or Kansas City)?

yeah it was Chuck but the bottle was pne of those plastic beer bottles they have at the stadiums now.

Those plastic bottles are fairly thick plastic, not like a water nottle and when filled with liquid are pretty heavy.
Also there were golf balls thrown, if you watched the game you saw Chuck and Bernie both pick one up off the field.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see that game, but I heard about the horrors of it. Poor Chuck, he gets treated so bad while he's playing so good.

Maybe I was a little harsh, the fans behavior was unacceptable.

The Twins come to the Stadium for 3 next week. Although I do not think anything will be trown, they will everything in the book said to them.

Maybe the best approach for a Twin corner outfielder would be to ignore the entire situation, but I would go in the other way. Try to make "friends" as best I could with the fans. During batting practice throw lots of balls into the stands, try talking to some fans, have a little fun with them. Even during the game always toss the ball I was warming up with into the stands.

Yes, you could wind up getting wacked in the head with a ball, but I would take my chances.

I was at the first Mets/Braves game in Shea last year after Rocker's comments about the 7 train, etc. I was in the only bleacher section at Shea which is right next to the visiting bull pen. Rocker came out to shag flies during Braves BP and he signed more autographs than any other Brave. He was very pleasant towards the crowd. I think it went a long way towards burying the hatchet, so to speak.

Your suggestion is not as off base as you might think.

Geez - twice in one day we actually agree on something.

10 posts in a row and none of them mine!
I'm so happy I could :bawl:

Knobby on the Pre-game Radio Wednesday night:

Most of the kids throwing the stuff were around 15 years old. That means they were 11 when I left and only 4 years old when I started playing. Funny, how could they know anything about me given they were so young when I was here and then left?

Chuck then added that he thought it was a Radio Station in Minny that was fueling all this - - he closed with something along the lines of "time is so short, if these people want to waste theirs thinking about me, it's not my issue."
