Among the leading candidates for most ridiculous Opening Day headline on January 1:
-Tigers rough-up '03 Cy Young winner for 7 in a shutout
Let me enjoy this for at least a day... :dizzy:

That was a thing of beauty to watch. The only thing negative about it, for me, was the knowledge that the Royals own amazing opening day would be dwarfed in comparison.
Oh, well. Cheers, anyway! To the underdogs!

They played good & actually looked like a real big league team. Jason Johnson pitched great against a tough lineup. Pudge & RonDL White with big HRs. But let's not forget it's only one game. It does give those Tiger fans out there hope & at the very least they can't start out 0-9 like last year .

Nice win for the Tigers. Little things like that can give a fan hope.

Exactly!! A move from 0 to 1 on the quality team scale is huge, given our recent history.

I cannot believe that it is the 1st time the Tigers are over .500 since 4/8/2001. That's a rough three years.............

...and what a difference a year makes, hunh? Now if White stays healthy, Pudge has a great year, Johnson contiues to pitch well...hey,I think I picked them for 4th place :D

Where is that ratings system? I need to give this thread 0 out of 5 - possibly the worst thread ever started at NDF. And I think both Husker and WT should be banned. ;)

LOOK OUT! 2-0. How this pitching staff held the Jays lineup to only three runs in two games I'll never know. How about Robertson with the old school save? They are dancing in the streets in Detroit.

Only thing more fun than the Tigers beating the Jays is the Rays beating the Yanks. Whoo!

I rate this thread as excellent! I also feel not only is WT and Husker great posters, they should be moderators.

Oh, so now the Tiger fans get greedy....last year you would have been satisfied with just taking the series. ;)
Gotta say, it's a lot of fun to see the Tigers with the best record in the game, at 2-0.

now if they could strike a deal to land neifi they would be set to make a run for the pennant.

This has got to be one of the best stories of the year...I'm just wondering what this says about the Jays?
Now the comparisons to the great 1984 team might be a little premature, but ya never know...

In any other division I would say the Tigers had no chance at all. But in the AL central I have at least allowed myself to believe they have a 1% chance. 5-1 and looking good. They aren't getting great pitching but their hitting has been very good.

I could not be happier for Tigers fans. Keep in mind, though, that while many of you will start believing in the Tigers more (as you should), that the team would have to improve by nearly 40 games over last year to break .500.
It certainly would be a thing to see.

I'm afraid I put the whammy on my boys' winning streak Saturday...I went to the freakin' ball game!! Since Comerica opened in 2000 I have been to roughly 50 games there...I'd be shocked if they won more than 6-7 of them!! Of course, the chance of seeing the Tigers lose in any given game has been quite favorable during this stretch, but still :( Let's say they won even 10 of them...that's still only 10-40 with huskerdru in the stands!! The question on everybody's lips, then, must be "So, will huskerdru sacrifice his personal enjoyment of live baseball to maximize his team's chances of winning more games?" Answer: not only NO, but hell NO!! I love my Tigers, but I love baseball even more :D !!

I should go more often because they seem to win when I go. I was at the Roger Clemens aborted 300 win attempt and I was there on the final day of the season. I will test the theory on Wednesday against the Jays.

I'm not trying to put down the Tigers, but we're not even halfway through April. At least wait until the end of the month before we deem them a feel-good story - they haven't even played 4% of their games yet!
Of course, this is a dangerous post to make when your sucky 1-5 team is heading to Hockeytown for a series that starts a few hours from now, but I really think it's a little premature to say too much yet. My belief is that Detroit really does have a chance to win it all - at least, the Detroit team that's currently up 2-1 against the Predators. That's the team the city should be watching, one that has proven itself over something greater than a six-game span.

Get off my cloud! :D This is the most Tiger fan has had to cheer about in 10 years. Wings, Pistons, tigers... now if the Lions give me something to cheer about then my life will be very good!

I can appreciate you wanting to cheer for the Tigers. Even with my complaining, I think it's great to see people getting excited about them.
I'll be rooting against them this week, but I will definitely be pulling for the Wings to eventually knock off the Avalanche!

last week our terrific cable service (2 or 3 MLB games a week, rarely live) showed the Tigers -Twins game (cornejo pitching). Compared to some of their games i have watched in previous years i thought the Tigers had real enthusiasm in their eye. Their players have been been much maligned but i think this year they will just go out there and enjoy themselves and with some extra oopmh from pudge et al there is no reason why the couldn't be in the mix for a while and maybe even win 70+ games. Wouldn't it be great to see the Tigers trading mid-year to tool up for the drive to the pennant.(not sure what/who they would trade but thats another story for another time).
i'm not even a big fan of theirs - i just like to see players and teams playing like they love the game and the tige's seem to be on the right path.

Went to the game last night and Comerica was pretty loud for a weekday April game. Robertson looked good in striking out 7. He needs to get more control though. I still don't fully believe but it's fun to pretend!
