A fairly quiet morning in the Cap'n's household. I popped a tape in the VCR, come to find out it was the last 5 innings of the gm. 7.

Some observations;

Barry Bonds, 0-22. Wow, he really struggled during the playoffs. Just popped out with runners on 1st & 3rd (8th inning).

McCarver noted that Bobby Bonilla rejected a 4yr/$16.75m contract offer from the Buccos.

Was it really that long ago that Pittsburgh won 3 consecutive division titles?

Game 7 @ Three Rivers wasn't sold out. Interesting. The "war chant" did break out for a bit, so there had to be a decent Braves fan presence there.

Wow, how good was the pitching in that series?

Brooklyn Bridge. What a great show. Too bad it didn't last too long.

Mazzone was rocking on the bench even then.

How small was Rafael Belliard?

Nick Esasky, remember him?

I noticed the players don't have the MLB logo on their caps. What year did they appear?

Man, it's quiet at the park. No obtrusive music, or anything. When'd that start?

Nolan Ryan advil commercials...

Wow, a Rickey Henderson themed Rolaids commercial

That's it for now. Anyone else have memories of the 91 NLCS?

Thanks for indulging :D

Sorry, I tried to delete the thread & was unsuccessful; shall I try to move it to the baseball history section?

I cant answer all your questions, but I can answer a few...

the mlb logo on hats started in 94, when the hats had the mlb logo, but it was gold, to comemorate mlb's 125th anniversary. after 94 they kept the logo's, but made them the basic mlb logo

pitching in that series was great...

its funny how soon we forget about what the braves and their were like...its easy to bash on braves fans for not showing up in postseason, but as you just mentioned, 13 years ago, the same team was there, it was another team not sold out, and the braves fans were making noise in pittsburgh. when everyone says that the braves fans should still make it to postseason games in droves, remember that that was just the pirates 2nd consecutive NLCS when fans grew bored and were interested in only the World Series....the Braves are basically in the same positon, but in year 13....

it was one of the first non WS games to be shown on TV where i live in Western Australia. I'm not sure of my exact memory but i do recall seeing Terry Pendleton play for the Card's in the 87 (i think) Series and then i saw him for the Braves and figured that he was a player i had heard of so why not root for them. I'm not sure if that was '91 but i do remember the games against Pittsburgh.... The games were shown on our TV's from about midnight so I was a very tired young lad for a few weeks - and i had to avoid the news leading up to midnight because the games were on about a 10-12 hour delay. of course, with cable here now we get 3-4 games a week and all the post season stuff live. Takes the romance away a little bit...

Nolan Ryan advil commercials...whatever happened to the war chant? did they deem it un-PC or something - haven't seen that in a while, not to the extent that they had it back in the early 90s.....

I remember those commercials - with Ryan 'acting' like he was overcome by a headache while pitching in the backyard (was there a barn?), and his wife commenting on it....
