Bobby Kielty, Chris Hammond, Arthur Rhodes, Eric Karros, Damian Miller, Mark Redman, and Mark Kotsay were all acquired by Billy Beane this winter in Oakland.

Will this group, seven players, help or hurt Beane's Oakland legacy?

If they win a playoff round, helps. I do like some of the moves. Especially Kielty and Redman.

i think OAK's legacy will not depend on these 7, but rather on their pitchers

Having to pitch a near shutout, almost every game, tends to wear on a staff.........

I think last year may be the low point. Ellis and Durazo will be better - Crosby may be just fine and Kielty will help a great deal. Swapping Kotsay for Long is a plus, too!

I disagree and will start another thread on this topic, in 7IS.

The absence of T. Long, and the return of Dye toward the mean (hopefully) will go a long way to improving the A's offense.

Probably won't hurt, but they need to win a playoff series against somebody.

Other than the acquisition of Kotsay, which could be questionable if Miller can't adequetly replace Hernandez, I think most of these moves were strong.

I personally feel that the Jermaine Dye extension has killed Oakland, since his production hasn't met the standards of his price tag. If he can produce at a near All Star level (25 + hrs, 100 rbis), then I think Oakland's offense should maintain at least, status quo.

Crosby must step in and be productive early, but I feel the pressure will fall on Chavez/Durazo/Dye. Kotsay/Kielty are nice additions, as is Karros (if he can be a productive platoon mate with Hatteberg).

Given the restraints the A's have in the finance dept., I feel all of the moves were strong. I like the additions of Redman and Rhodes, but I wish we could have found a way to keep Foulke.

My overall opinion is:

If Miller replaces Hernandez with no drop off, if Kotsay makes solid strides in the OF and if Dye/Durazo can imrpove on sub-par/injured riddled seasons of a year ago, then if could be a fun two team (Angels) race in September for the division.

One month into the season, if you had to issue a report grade on the performance of Bobby Kielty, Chris Hammond, Arthur Rhodes, Eric Karros, Damian Miller, Mark Redman, and Mark Kotsay so far, what would you give them?

I'm thinking somewhere around a C- to a D+

I guess that's not too bad since that's what they are ... a bunch of average guys. From a "grade" point of view versus what they were supposed to do they have been far better than say .......Alex Rodriquez. Of course, those guys don't have the upside of ARod.

Karros and Kotsay have been disappointing, for sure. Miller has been a surprise. Kielty is what Kielty is. Redman has been good. Hammond is what he is. Rhodes has been OK.

I think when Crosby gets some confidence, and Kielty and Kotsay improve then they'll be fine offensively.

What's hurt them is Mecir, Bradford, Rincon and Zito.
