Slow news day at espn. Baseball America wrote a similar story months ago. Japanese pitcher in the Indians system did a gay porn film while in college in Japan. Says it was a mistake, teammates rally around him.
My point here is more that ESPN couldn't find anything better to report than an old story like this?

We covered it about 4 months ago: http://www.netshrine.com/vbulletin2/showthread.php?t=11654

Actually, this is what I meant by bringing it up back then - this will be the type of story that will dog this guy, because the media will not let it go away.

man, maybe this should be in seventh inning stretch. ESPN is having a slow news day and is filling in the void with stories about asian pitchers:

Jae Kuk Ryu can't pay a fine instead of doing community service. Ryu is a Cubs farmhand who killed an osprey last spring. The courts in daytona beach expect him to return from South Korea and do the community service by the end of February. ok, so he did something stupid and killed a mascot, but don't our courts have anything better to do than force a foreign national to perform community service instead of paying the fine?

A big "*censored* You" to ESPN.com. Not so much that they reported it, but it was like the 2nd listed story on the right-hand column ON THE FRONT DAMN PAGE. For one thing, you told us this 4 months ago. :) But this is just...*censored* retarded and stupid and juvenile.

I don't particularly get why they have to put these kind of "shock" stories on the front page anyway. Maybe shock isn't the word but I can't think of anything else. I mean, someone has to...but it's not like an article not getting clicks is going to kill ESPN.com or something.

My point is kind of lost among that, simply put, ESPN and the rest of the media needs to get over it. Stop fawning over athletes that have homosexual ties and REPORT NEWS (or share opinions). Jesus christ...is that so hard to understand...

More and more, I'm beginning to hate ESPN as a whole...I never thought I'd say that. SportsCenter is less entertaining, and the website is a piece of *censored*. Now they have to make Tadano front page news. Ludicrous.

You know, the more I hear this *censored*, the more I'm gonna root this guy on. That's what more people should be doing.

I feel bad enough for the guy, considering the possible heckling he must have to put up with regarding this video. It could get even uglier if he makes the big club - I can imagine what it will be like in a hostile road environment.

For ESPN to rehash the story is just ridiculous, and I'm not sure what purpose it serves beyond filling space on their site. We already heard about this months ago, and I don't know what has changed. I guess it's just an indication that ESPN isn't above other news sites in redoing non-stories.

The Seattle Times and Newsday in NY are running stories now on this kid. For whatever reason, the story is taking off now.

Add CNN/SI to the list. The guy didn't do anything illegal, anything damaging to his ability to play, damaging to anyone else, or even anything recent. These clowns don't cover the minor or international leagues worth a dime, but the moment they can jump on an old non-story the tabloids wouldn't have given a second thought, it's a "top story".

All of these outlets are re-affirming my belief that all media people must be shot and killed...but that's just me. :)

I watched Tadano's maiden voyage on a major league mound last night. His fastball tops out at 89 mph. He features a lot of junk in the 70 mph range, including a forkball. One pitch even went as slow as 62 mph. He has good composure on the mound, and wasn't fazed when opposing hitters were on base. It didn't look like he fooled anybody in the 5th inning, when he gave up 3 singles. Every hit was a bullet. He was helped out by the Chisox hitters' tendency to swing for the fences, resulting in pop-ups.

I've got to wonder what all the hype was about. 89 mph is not going to fool most good-hitting lineups.

Initially he's not impressive, but with a lot of coaching he might improve.
