After the institution of the DH for the 1974 season, who was the first AL Pitcher to steal a base?
[Les Nessman voice] Eeeeewwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhh! [/lnv] Good question.
[Les Nessman reality] No clue. [/lnr]

How about Ismael Valdes of the Angels on 06-08-2001? He stole 3rd base off the Dodgers Giovanni Carrara.
Blue Moon Odom stole a base in 1973. Are you sure that isn't who you wanted?

Blue Moon Odom stole a base in 1973. Are you sure that isn't who you wanted? Odom was the last AL pitcher before the DH era to steal a base. I'm looking for the guy after him. It was done before Valdes. Hint: He did it in a pinch-running role.

Gene Nelson stole a base as a pinch runner for the A's in 1988

Gene Nelson stole a base as a pinch runner for the A's in 1988 But this is the guy I'm was looking for. I'm not sure why they had him pinch running for Don Baylor though?
Odom, Nelson, Kip Wells, Valdes, and Kenny Rogers are the 5 AL pitchers that have stolen a base in the DH era (unless someone else did it last year).

Interesting that the SBE has no mention of this event. Fortunately, other sources do.
