I'm hoping someone on the site can help me out with this. I am looking for split stats of former players like Lou Gehrig, but have looked far and wide including all the usual suspect web sites like baseball reference.com and have come up with nothing.
For example, I'm looking for how many homers Gehrig hit in his career on the road as opposed to at home in Yankee Stadium, but I can't seem to find this type of info anywhere. For active players, it's easily available, but seemingly not for former players like Gehrig (and other players).
Does anyone know of any sites that may provide this info? Any ideas you may have would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Baseball Almanac has this listing of home and road HR totals for those with at least 500 dingers: http://www.baseball-almanac.com/hitting/hi500c.shtml

Thanks Sweaver, that does help. Although Gehrig had 493 lol.
I'm most interested in how the old Yankee Stadium effected righties and lefties. I know DiMaggio had far more homers on the road, although I don't know the number. Interesting according to the link you provided, Ruth also hit more road homers in his career. Perhaps the short porch didn't mean all that much since the gap walls jetted back so far so fast... but I'd like to know Gehrig's splits, darn it....

I saw that while I was searching, somewhere. Your best bet may be to Google the players you want with key terms like homers, home and road, etc. I can't find a systematic listing, and don't know if the SBE has it.

I can only help out with homer totals--Gehrig hit 251 homers at Yankee Stadium and 242 away during his career.
DiMaggio hit 148 at Yankee Stadium and 213 away during his career.
Ruth hit 334 at Yankee Stadium and 325 away during his Yankee years only.

Great, thanks again for your help fellas.
No problem--make sure you get Ruth's correct #s. I accidently added in his first few years as a Red Sox in the first set of numbers. The H/A splits should be correct now.

THe extreme nature of Mel Ott's splits 323/188 call into question his credentials for Cooperstown. If Banks were not an SS for his peak years, his splits 290/222 also would raise questions

Home/away splits for former players are available at:

The listing is still pretty incomplete, some players have no listings, others for ony part of their careers. Unfortunately Gehrig's career splits are not listed. However, his World series and all-star splits are available.

You can use SABR's Home Run Encyclopedia to get home/road homer splits (along with many other splits for homers) through about 1997.
