I have always liked Buehrle. He has given the Sox two decent seasons and two real good seasons. Seems like a sound investment and the time frame is not onerous to either party.

they need to hope he bounces back to his 2001-02 level after a big dropoff last year

I think Buerhle turned down a bigger contract last year that would have taken him through his arbit-eligible years. Amazing what a 10 game losing streak will do.

Some of Buehrle quality numbers dropped last year but which would you rather have a 25 year old pitcher who over the last three years averaged 230 innings and 22 RSAA for $6M a year or a 32 year old who averaged 180 innings and 12 RSAA for $10M??
