I know there are publicity and marketing factors involved, but strictly from a baseball standpoint, why would you sign this guy? It forces your premier prospect, a guy you've promoted as a potential Gold Glover, and coming off a solid rookie season, to a different position. Couldn't those $18 or $21M be used to sign or trade for a 2nd baseman(Spivey?Todd Walker? Vina?Grudzielanek?) and more? This deal just makes no sense to me; of course, it could turn out great, but it just doesn't feel right.
Someone help me see the light on this one
