The two sides could not get a deal done and Pudge is gone.

"I tried my best to remain a Marlin by not requesting a salary increase. To my knowledge, I'm the only major leaguer in recent times who won the World Series and received a postseason MVP award, and yet his club did not offer a higher salary."
See Craig Counsell as recent as 2001. ;)
Really, the Marlins tired to low ball him at 7 when he was asking for 10.
Seven? No wonder he walked, Boras or not, most would have walked.

I think the problem for the Marlins was Pudge's insistence on a four year deal. He wanted the same time amount given to Lowell.

I agree. Pudge is too advanced in age for a catcher to be a safe bet at 40 million and 4 years.

I'd give Pudge $10m, or a 4-year deal, but not both in combination.
I'm not sure that there's anyone out there who's going to give him what he's looking for.

Me thinks that Pudge and Boras are in for an eye opening experience.

Indeed. I doubt they'll be willing to take another 1 year deal. Although, come March, the Marlins' offer might not look so bad.
